4"Stud Journal (thoughts, ideas and confessions from the members of 4"Stud)

9/15/07 - Stevie

OOOOOOOOOWWWWWWW!!! <--- That completely sums up my experience in the A (Atlanta) with Brother Love and Keith and The Girl.

For the week before the gig, I felt like I was studying for an exam. I had Brother Love tunes playing on my iPod 24/7. The goal, since there weren’t any rehearsals planned, was to pound the music into my brain to point where I could get on stage, turn on the auto-pilot and rock it.

It was the coolest feeling in the world to walk through the airport, guitar in hand, en route to a gig. That feeling got even better when the security guard searching my bag, saw the 4”Stud stickers and said, “4”Stud! I love you guys!” ROCK! I AM THE BIGGEST ROCKSTAR EVER… that flies couch... So, I made it to Atlanta around noon and Dragon*Con was in full force! I knew that I was going to a sci-fi / gaming convention, but I had no idea that between the three hotels there would be 30,000 of freaks totally geekin’ out in crazy costumes. There were Spartans, Storm Troopers, Slutty Fairies, and even a Hello Kitty Darth Vader.

I headed to the Podcasting Panel room to meet up with Keith, Chemda and Brother Love. We promptly made a run to the bar to pound a beer. That’s when I got a call from the most generous guy in Atlanta, Jason, from the band RATL (http://rockinatlanta.com). About a week before the gig, I posted an ad on craigslist in Atlanta asking to borrow an amp. Jason totally hooked me up and drove in traffic for 45 minutes to drop off one off! What a guy! Things were working out perfectly!

After dinner at Steak & Ale with five separate checks for nine people, the four of us headed back to my hotel room for the one and only rehearsal before the gig. We jammed on a few tunes, nailed down the harmonies and threw the horns in the air. We would figure the rest out on stage. It was gonna ROCK!

Sure enough, Keith and Chemda did an amazing live show which included two sets of titties. Thanks SoccerGirl and Lambgirl! It can be purchased for $5 (http://www.keithandthegirl.com/live). After the live show, Brother Love and I took the stage. It was a little awkward at first because we were in a hotel conference room, but FUCK THAT! We were gonna rock it and we did! We definitely got into it and the audience eventually started coming up to the stage to rock with us. To end an amazing set of Brother Love tunes, we invited Keith onstage to sing Poison’s Talk Dirty to Me. Chemda was smart enough to print off a bunch of lyric sheets for everyone, so we did a huge sing along! Bret Michaels would have been proud.

Once the performance ended, I was ready to take on the world. I felt like I had just finished my last final and I was off to Spring Break! SPRING BREAK!!! WOOOOO!!!! I dropped my gear off and partied ‘till 5am with Brother Love, Keith, Chemda, and a bunch of Keith and The Girl fans. I flew back to Boston about 6 hours later, drove home, dropped off my suitcase, grabbed a second guitar and headed back into the city for the 4”Stud gig at the Paradise. This is the life!

I can’t wait for October 26th at Copperfields in Boston, when Keith and The Girl, Brother Love and Topheavy are going to join 4”Stud for the most amazing Halloween Show ever!

For the Keith and The Girl show that talks all about the trip, checkout show 570: The Con. They talk about my performance at 1:12:00.
